Amazing Men and their Magical Machines |
|
I intend to figure out all the calculations associated with this device and figure out once and for all whether it will or will not work. I have decided to take a wheel with eight weight's which are positioned 2l away from the center of the wheel and separated by a 45 degree angle. There is a hing l meters from the weight and as each weight reach's the positive y axis the weight is pushed completely vertical.
This situation:
m=1kg
l1=0.5m
The machine is in the position shown in the figure below:
Weight 1
r1 = (1)(Cosine 45) = 0.707m
F1 = (1)(9.81) = 9.81N
M1 = (9.81)(0.707) = 6.937 kg m²
Weight 2
r2 = 1m
F2 = (1)(9.81) = 9.81N
M2 = (9.81)(1) = 9.81 kg m²
Weight 3
r3 = 0.707m
F3 = 9.81N
M3 = 6.937 kg m²
Weight 4
r4 = 0m
F4 = 9.81N
M4 = (9.81)(0) = 0 kg m²
Weight 5
r5 = (0.5)(Cosine 45) = 0.354m
F5 = 9.81N
M5 = (9.81)(0.354) = -3.473 kg m²
Weight 6
r6 = 0.5m
F6 = 9.81
M6 = (9.81)(0.5) = -4.905 kg m²
Weight 7
r7 = 0.707m
F7 = 9.81N
M7 = 6.937 kg m²
Weight 8
r8 = 0m
F8 = 9.81N
M8 = o kg m²
Sum of the moments
ΣM = 6.937 + 9.81 + 6.937 + (-3.473) + (-4.905) + (-6.937) = +8.369
There is a clockwise moment of 8.369 kg m²
